Campaign Story

My name is Nikki Mercadel, and I am a registered nurse and mother fighting for my daughter’s future after she was diagnosed at just 17 years old with Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI). POI is a condition where the ovaries lose normal function far earlier than expected, often leading to infertility and significantly affecting the ability to have biological children in the future.

As both a mother and a healthcare professional, this diagnosis has been heartbreaking for our family. Hearing that my daughter may one day lose the opportunity to experience biological motherhood completely changed our lives and forced us to begin thinking about fertility preservation options far sooner than we ever imagined.

Because of the uncertainty surrounding her future fertility, I have made the deeply personal decision to undergo fertility preservation myself in hopes of preserving the possibility of biological motherhood for her in the future through donated eggs, should she one day choose that path as an adult.

Adding to the urgency of this journey, I have also been diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve, meaning time is extremely important when it comes to preserving healthy eggs before my own fertility declines further. This has created both an emotional and financial race against time for our family.

Unfortunately, fertility preservation and IVF-related treatment are incredibly expensive, and many of these services are not covered by insurance. The costs of consultations, medications, egg retrieval procedures, and long-term storage fees quickly become overwhelming, even while working full-time in healthcare.

I am fundraising to help cover these medical expenses and to give my daughter something priceless — hope, options, and the possibility of one day having a biological family of her own.

This journey has been emotional, unexpected, and financially difficult, but I refuse to give up on her future. Every donation, share, and prayer means more than words can express. Thank you for supporting our journey and helping us keep hope alive.
